Young K Once Ate Eight Packs of Ramen at Once. Here Is How He Changed for YOUNGEST

DAY6’s Young K has long been known among fans for an appetite that appears almost as impressive as his songwriting résumé. However, the musician says his eating habits changed considerably while preparing for his latest solo album.

Appearing on the August 4 episode of TEO’s YouTube talk show Salon Drip, Young K told host Jang Do-yeon that he could no longer confidently describe himself as a big eater after what he jokingly called a “stomach-size diet.”

His definition of a smaller meal still surprised the production team. Young K said he now eats approximately three packs of ramen at a time, asking whether that was not a normal amount for men. When Jang asked about the height of his appetite, he revealed that he once consumed as many as eight packs in one sitting.

Young K did not realize his portions were unusual

Young K explained that large meals had been normal throughout his childhood. As an only child, he remembered eating an entire rotisserie chicken by himself while each of his parents also had one. Because everyone in his household ate that way, he grew up without considering himself an unusually big eater.

His appetite became more noticeable during his years as a trainee. Young K recalled visiting a partner restaurant that allowed trainees to request unlimited bowls of rice. After ordering a single serving of soybean paste stew and asking for rice eight times, however, he was reportedly reprimanded for taking the offer too literally.

He also thanked a convenience-store owner who recognized how much he ate and gave him unsold lunchboxes during that financially and physically demanding period. The stories add context to an appetite that has become part of Young K’s public persona rather than simply another variety-show anecdote.

What he meant by a “stomach-size diet”

Young K’s expression did not refer to surgery or a medical procedure. He used it humorously to describe becoming accustomed to smaller portions after controlling his food intake.

In interviews marking the release of YOUNGEST, he said he lost approximately 10 kilograms over about four months by eating one standard-sized meal each day. He did not follow a separate exercise program for the weight loss, relying primarily on dietary restriction because he already had a relatively high level of muscle mass.

“I lost around 10 kilograms because I wanted to look good,” he explained in one interview, adding that his weight was at its lowest when he filmed the music video. Young K has since regained some of it.

His comments describe his personal album preparation and should not be interpreted as general health advice. Medical experts typically emphasize that highly restrictive diets can affect energy, nutrition and muscle mass differently depending on the individual.

The transformation was part of a major solo return

The weight loss accompanied Young K’s return with his second full-length solo album, YOUNGEST, released on July 27. According to JYP Entertainment, the 15-track record arrived two years and ten months after his first studio album, Letters with notes.

Young K participated in writing and composing every song on the album, including the synth-pop title track “Shut The Door.” The project presents different sides of Kang Young-hyun, his birth name, while reflecting on emotions collected across several stages of his life and career.

The album followed DAY6’s tenth-anniversary activities, making the comeback another significant chapter for an artist who has spent more than a decade balancing his roles as a vocalist, bassist and songwriter.

Young K may no longer eat eight packs of ramen in one sitting, but his current three-pack portion suggests that his famously generous appetite has not disappeared entirely. It has simply entered what he considers its more restrained era.
