One of the most fun things about K-dramas is watching a character live a completely different life behind everyone’s back. Whether they’re hiding a secret identity, pretending to be someone they’re not, or keeping a major part of their life hidden, these characters always make things more interesting. Sometimes the double life leads to romance, while other times it brings plenty of twists and suspense.
Here are some K-dramas featuring characters who have a whole other side to them.
1. “Agent Kim Reactivated”
Agent Kim (So Ji Sub), a former spy, is living a quiet life as a single father. He is forced back into action when his daughter Min Ji (Seo Su Min) is kidnapped as a result of a school bully. With his secret finally exposed, he’ll stop at nothing to save the person he loves most.

So Ji Sub is great at playing characters with a tougher side, and this role gives him a chance to bring that intensity back to the screen. It’s especially fun seeing him go from a quiet single dad to a highly skilled former spy when his daughter is in danger. The fight scenes are definitely worth watching (and rewatching!), but it’s also the contrast between his everyday life and his dangerous past that makes Agent Kim such a fun character to watch.
2. “Kill It”
Jang Ki Yong stars as Kim Soo Hyun, a veterinarian by day and an assassin by night. When Do Hyung Jin (Nana) moves into the same building that Soo Hyun’s animal hospital is in, she tries to befriend him. Soo Hyun’s cold exterior doesn’t stop Hyun Jin from approaching him and turning to him for help. Soon, the two realize that their childhoods are intertwined with each other and that they are both trying to discover the same secrets.

What makes this series especially interesting is how different it is from Jang Ki Yong’s other projects. He does a great job balancing Soo Hyun’s two very different sides. As a veterinarian, he is quiet, gentle, and caring with animals, but his life as an assassin brings out a much colder and more dangerous side. Watching him switch between these two identities is what makes Soo Hyun such an intriguing character, especially as more of his mysterious past is revealed.

3. “Flower of Evil”
In this mystery thriller, Baek Hee Sung (Lee Joon Gi) is a perfect husband and doting father to a little girl. To the visible eye he is perfect, but there’s another life he leads; one filled with murder, deceit, and lies. His wife Cha Ji Won (Moon Chae Won) is a detective and is in the midst of a cat-and-mouse hunt that will lead her to her husband as the prime suspect.

This is undoubtedly one of Lee Joon Gi’s best roles. He does such a great job of making Hee Sung’s two sides feel completely different, from the loving husband and father to the man hiding a dark and complicated past. The suspense keeps you hooked, but it’s the emotional side of his relationship with Ji Won that makes the story hit even harder. Watching her slowly get closer to the truth about her husband while he tries to protect the life they built together makes this K-drama incredibly hard to stop watching.

4. “Healer”
Night courier Seo Jung Hoo, known as “Healer” (Ji Chang Wook), becomes connected to reporter Chae Young Shin (Park Min Young) while uncovering hidden truths from the past. As they work together to chase justice, they find themselves caught in a dangerous mystery tied to their pasts.

Ji Chang Wook is so much fun to watch in this drama, especially because Jung Hoo has such a different side to him when he’s working as Healer. His awkward and shy alter ego, Park Bong Soo, allows Ji Chang Wook to show a softer side of his character, especially as Young Shin starts getting closer to him without realizing who he really is. The double life, mystery, action, and romance all come together so well, which is a big part of why “Healer” has remained such a beloved K-drama and is still worth rewatching today.

5. “City Hunter”
In “City Hunter,” Lee Min Ho plays a character named Lee Yoon Sung, who goes undercover at the Blue House as an IT expert so that he can follow through with his father’s plan for revenge. There he meets Kim Na Na (Park Min Young), who works as a bodyguard. The two of them form an alliance as they realize that their plans for revenge are similar. In the process, they engage in a passionate romance.

Lee Min Ho is great as Yoon Sung, especially as he has to keep up his seemingly normal life at the Blue House while secretly carrying out his father’s revenge plan. There’s a lot of emotional weight behind his mission, as he has to hide his true identity and keep the people he cares about at a distance, including Na Na. As their relationship grows, Yoon Sung begins to question whether revenge is worth sacrificing his chance at happiness. “City Hunter” has plenty of action and romance, but it’s Yoon Sung’s emotional struggle between revenge and love that makes the drama so memorable.
6. “A Bona Fide Killer”
Yoo Bo Na (Kong Hyo Jin) is a loving wife and mother who has a secret life as a highly skilled assassin known as “Kingfisher.” After taking three years off to raise her daughter, she returns to her dangerous job while trying to balance it with her family life. Meanwhile, her husband Kwon Tae Sung (Jung Jun Won) is a newspaper reporter who is assigned to investigate the mysterious Kingfisher, completely unaware that the killer he’s searching for is actually his wife.

When Kong Hyo Jin takes on a project, you can almost guarantee she’ll deliver a memorable performance, and “A Bona Fide Killer” is no exception. This is a very different role from many of her past projects, but through the character of Bo Na, she gets to show off a much more action-oriented side, including some impressive fight scenes. Kong Hyo Jin makes her double life feel completely believable, switching from a warm and playful wife and mother to a calm and fearless assassin. It’s so entertaining watching her take on these two sides.
